Search Engine Optimisation is simply the art of getting your website SERP (search engine ranking position) higher in the search engines.
While that may all sound quite simple, the part that everyone does not share is the common knowledge that makes search engine optimisation available for everyone. Below is a compiled list of the top 7 basic things when building your website content that you should ensure you do to make the most of your search engine position.
Selecting 1-3 main phrases
The common mistake people make when targeting good SERP is they target too many phrases all at once, pick one two or maximum three phrases before undertaking any of the below techniques.
Keywords In Domain Name
Ensure that your domain name, or sub-URL include the keywords of the phrase that you want to be found under on Google. For example web design wigan would be /web-design-wigan/ and always use hyphens “-” instead of underscores “_”
High Density Keywords in Content
Ensure that while your content is legible and makes sense you include your keyword at least 5 times per 100 words in your content. It is good to have the words in the same order, for example web design wigan is better rather than webdesign in wigan however this is still beneficial. The more your include the keywords the better your search engine results.
Keywords In META Title
Having your keywords in the title are just as important for search engine optimisation. Ensure that your title is no more than 20-30 characters and that the use of commas are avoided, use the “|” instead as seen in our SEO title.
<H> Header Tags
Make sure that your keywords are included in your header tags, from an SEO perspective this is really essential. Ensure that your comment also has the same main keywords.
Unique Content
Google dislike and punish duplicate content. Ensure all content is unique and that you do not copy content from one page to another.
ALT Images
Ensure that images are given adequate descriptions that relate to the keywords of the page. While spider bots will only read text, giving your image a description gives it a meaning.
