A little while ago, Google made a statement announcing that they will be encrypting all search terms used in their search engine. No longer is it possible for keyword information to be gathered by website owners without difficulty.
It seems apparent that the reason for this is to further push the use of Google Plus. Another part of Google’s changes is the inclusion of hashtag searching (which has been included as part of Google+ for a while).
Are Hashtags Replacing Keywords? It looks like it!
When someone now searches for a hashtag in Google it will now also display a live results feed directly from Google+ appearing alongside the organic results.
Furthermore, Google released a new tech updated named “Hummingbird” with the primary aim of improving the quality of search sophistication. Instead of looking at each word in a search phrase independently, the new algorithm can now interpret sentences, questions and phrases as a whole.
With this much more intelligent understanding of concepts, as well as relationships between concepts, it may now be much less useful to fill up websites with keyword spam to improve search rankings. As the search engine can now see the wider picture when looking at search terms, it should promote content creators to make much more relevant and interesting articles and media.
This is an exciting development for the World Wide Web. We will hopefully see an increase in quality content and media as a whole, creating a better web experience for everyone.
Are Hashtags Replacing Keywords? It certainly looks like it!
