What does the word “sharing” mean to you? Spending time with someone? Helping them out, maybe? In essence, it infers that something is given to somebody else, whether it be time, money or goods.
However, in the terms of social media, sharing can now be translated into an actual cash value. Thanks to technology, the worth of a simple click on the “share” button on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and the like can be calculated in pounds and pence.
The increasing worth of sharing
Data from a study made by a popular online ticket company shows that in the two-year period from 2010 to 2012, the value of a share on Facebook increased by 65%. A Linkedin share showed only a small increase of around 2%, but the value of a Twitter share rose by an incredible 330%.
Although Twitter did not produce the same amount of revenue for the company, it was revealed that Twitter generated around 33 visits per share to Facebook’s 14 visits. Visits via Linkedin following a share were around one-third of those made via Twitter.
The study confirms that sharing on Twitter generates considerably more traffic than sharing on Facebook does.
The value of sharing varies across the world
Studies show that there are significant differences in the cash value of social media sharing from country to country.
For example – a Linkedin share is worth almost four times the value in France than in Canada, while in Ireland, a Twitter share is worth almost four times the value of one in the UK and a Facebook share is worth twice that of one in Australia.
Therefore it is vital to make it easy to share on social networks as our Wigan web design team have done as the value to you can be calculated in actual cash.
