On the week beginning the 4th of August 2014, Google announced that websites running SSL/HTTPS will be given a ranking boost over those running HTTP. The new signal now included in Google”s algorithm is not very influential and should not panic webmasters, however it will be recognised as something to help boost your search engine rankings.
In March this year, Matt Cutts said that he would like for HTTPS to be a ranking signal and despite being on leave, managed to find the time to tweet his happiness on the matter:
We will migrate over some websites this week and monitor the progress made in a few weeks time here.
Although Nick only has only been in the web design industry for a couple of years, he quickly became a valuable member of the Nexus Websites team.
