To insert an image onto your webpage, you need to click on the ‘Insert Media’ button located on the left just above the toolbar, next to the text ‘Upload/Insert’.

You will now see box appear on the screen that is used for adding media to the page. Click on the ‘Select Files’ and this will open up a window that will let you navigate the files on your computer. When you have found the image you would like to use, select it and click on ‘Open’. This will take a couple of seconds to upload the image to your website media gallery. The box will then extend to show you details of the image you have just uploaded. The four most important fields are Title, Link URL, Alignment and Size.

Add Media

Image Attributes

Title: This is the name that will appear when you mouse over the image, you can leave the box blank to have no text show upon mouse over.

Link URL: This will add a hyperlink to the image that will load upon clicking on the image. By default there is a direct link to the image, however in most cases you will not need the image to link at all, so select the drop-down box and click on ‘None’ to remove it. If you wish to add a link to a webpage from the image, you can chose ‘custom url’  from the drop-down box and then type or paste the desired destination URL into the box (for example www.yourwebsite.co.uk/services)

Alignment: This represents how the image will appear within the page related to the text around it. ‘Left’ ‘Right’ and ‘Centre’ will place the image on the relevant side of page, with the text wrapping along side the image. ‘None’ will place the image independently of the text, and will not allow any text to wrap around it.

Size: This will help you to adjust the size of the image, with ‘Thumbnail’ scaling the image down to be quite small, and ‘Full Size’ will keep the image at its original size. It is possible to change the image size easily after insertion, if you do not want a specific size or are unsure then it’s a good idea to leave it on full size and then scale it down afterwards to suit.

When all the settings are changed as required, click on ‘Insert into Post’. The image will then be added to the page.

Image Manipulation

After an image has been inserted, it can be modified in several different ways.

If you select an image, two icons will appear. Clicking on the icon displaying a landscape will display the image settings similar to the picture above. Clicking on the red no entry icon will remove the image.

To re-size the image you can click on one of the small squares that can be seen surrounding the image and drag the mouse in a direction. A ghost of the image will appear as well as a small box to help show you the change in image size.  Letting go of the mouse button will complete the re-size.

You can also change the position of the image by clicking within the image and dragging to the desired location. The image will be placed where the mouse cursor is located within the text on the page. Please note that this will not affect the alignment. To change the alignment you need to open the image settings as described above.
